THE NETHERLANDS - VLISSINGEN
CBS DE WISSEL
CBS De
Wissel is one of the five primary schools of Perspectief. Perspectief provides
Christian/Roman Catholic education for children age 4-12 in Vlissingen
CBS De
Wissel has 475 pupils. The school welcomes everybody who agrees to our
Christian identity. Basis rule is people respecting one another. We think from
by that vision one can accomplish a lot.
CBS De
Wissel cooperates with Stichting Arduin, (an organization for services to
people with intellectual disabilities) in a so-called programme :
"Inclusion" The programme provides children who are mentally of
physically disabled, an opportunity to be educated in the school in their
neighbourhood, together with children with and without disabilities.
These
children attend the regular classes and are accompanied by a special teacher
the whole day.
We educate
our students in what we call "Boeiend Onderwijs" which means
providing them with an education whereby pupils are involved in taking action
themselves, by letting them make mindmaps, graphics with behavior patterns, and
soforth. We also have a mediatheque located in the school.
The social
development, activities outside the school, good contact with parents, our
modern learning method, supported by digital blackboards in every classroom,
stands for meaning and quality of our school.
Our school
is located in Vlissingen, a city in the southwestern Netherlands on the former
island of Walcheren. With its strategic location between the Scheldt River and
the North Sea, Flushing has been an important harbour for centuries. And it has
been holding that position ever since. It was granted city rights in 1315. In
the 17th century Flushing was a main harbour for ships of the Dutch East India
Company (VOC). It is also known as the birthplace of Admiral Michiel de Ruyter.
Flushing is
mainly noted for the wharves on the Scheldt where most of the ships of the
Royal Netherlands Navy are built.
Vlissingen
is also known because of its tourism.
While you take a stroll down the Boulevard, a beautiful promenade along
the coastline, you can almost touch the ocean vessels sailing past. Ships from
all over the world travel past Vlissingen harbor towards Antwerp. From the
Boulevard or while you are sunbathing on one of Vlissingen's sand beaches
(which are the only ones in The Netherlands facing the south) you can
enjoy a spectacular sight watching the
pilot boats shoot out from the harbor at high speeds to drop off or pick up a
pilot from these enormous ships
